Committee on Earth Observation Satellite 2020 – Online Plenary Opening

In concerns to the epidemic situation relating to Covid-19, the Committee on Earth Observation Satellite (CEOS) 2020 Plenary planned to take place in Indian, hosted by the Indian Space Research Organisation will now be held online on October 20 to 22, 2020.

As in any normal annual offline plenary taking place in the country members, with participation of the organisations from the US, Japan, Australia, the UK, France, China, etc., CEOS 2020 Online Plenary purposes to keep all contents and give participants room to discuss and decide the activities, plans and strategies in short and long terms, to build and deploy regional and international multilateral cooperative missions.

In the act of taking part in defending the Covid-19 pandemic, the Plenary also gives time to talk about the cooperation between CEOS and other international organisations considering earth observation satellite data serving epidemic prevention.

CEOS 2019 Plenary in Vietnam

Previously in CEOS 2019 Plenary, which took place in Hanoi, Dr. Pham Anh Tuan, Director General of Vietnam National Space Center (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), Chairman of CEOS 2018-2019, has handed over the chairmanship to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

During the time being CEOS Chair Agency, Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC) has played the center role in coordinating current and future strategic missions of CEOS members, supporting the Group on Earth Observation, etc. And most of all, VNSC has finished 2 initiatives, what are: Carbon Observation, including forested regions, and Observations for Agriculture, focusing on rice crop monitoring. These applications are useful for Vietnam agriculture evaluation and expected to apply to other countries in the Mekong Delta region.
