Constructed on 9ha, Vietnam Space Center Project is implemented under ODA fund of Japanese Government and counterpart fund from Vietnamese Government. This is a key project in “Strategy of Research and Application of Space Technology until 2020”. Therefore, from the beginning, the Project has been received special attention and close guidance from the Government. Vietnam National Satellite Center (VNSC) under Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology will receive and implement this key project.
In the Letter of Congratulation, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan states that: “Vietnam Space Center Project is a national key project and is one of the biggest investment project in science and technology in Vietnam in the recent 35 years. The Government will fully support for the implementation of the project to be on schedule, which will contribute an essential part in the implementation of the Strategy of Research and Application of Space Technology until 2020… The project is also the beginning of the strategic cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in space technology.”
Presented at the Ceremony, His Excellency Mr. Yasuaki TANIZAKI – Ambassador of Japan in Vietnam, has emphasized the importance of the Project in improving the cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Japan in science and technology in general, in space science in particular. “This is a totally different ODA project that Japan has implemented in Vietnam. Before, Japan mostly funded ODA for infrastructure projects such as airports, roads, bridges, ports etc. but this time, it’s a special project in high technology”, Mr. Yasuaki TANIZAKI said.
Vietnam Space Center takes responsible for important tasks such as: Master the technology and self-manufacture small satellites for Earth observation of Vietnam in any weather condition with radar technology; Process satellite data for disaster monitoring and early warning; Early forecast agricultural production, marine resources, update digital mapping system for land management and planning, global climate change and National Security. The project consists of 3 main components:
- Technical infrastructure and facilities: Assembly, Integration and Testing Center for small satellites; Data Receiving Ground Station; R&D center; Education Center; Space Museum and Observatory.
- Technology transfer: Receive and self-manufacture 02 small Earth observation satellites using SAR technology with high resolution (1m)
- Capacity Development: Training of about 350 scientists, experts and high-level managers in the field of space technology.
In the most important moment of the Ceremony, representatives from Vietnam and Japan had pressed the button to officially launch the construction of Vietnam Space Center at HoaLac High-Tech Park. This marks the breakthrough step in the development of space technology and application in Vietnam, contributing to the success of the Development Plan and Strategy of Space Technology in Vietnam in order to promote research and application of space technology to serve the industrialization, modernization and the sustainable socio-economic development of the country.
