On June 26th, 2017, the Memorandum of Understanding between Vietnam National Satellite Center (VNSC), Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and Study team of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI Study Team) on Vietnam’s long-term satellite development and utilization plan funded by METI was signed in Hanoi. Based on the Vietnam Space Center Project being funded (ODA) by the Government of Japan, The METI Study team will conduct field trips to several organizations as well as universities/ electronic companies to make survey and strategy of on Vietnam’s long-term satellite development and utilization plan (vision to 2030 – 2040). In addition, the METI Study Team also investigate the possibility of using both radar and optical satellites for Vietnam to maximize the benefit of the technical infrastructure of the current Vietnam Space Center Project. Furthermore, capacity development and training and technology transfer to self-manufacturing satellite of Vietnam are also under surveyed. The research program of the METI Study Team starts from June 2017 to February 2018. The results of this research will be presented at a workshop held later this year to Vietnam Ministries/ Boards/ Departments and submitted to the Government of Japan early next year.
