Resolution No. 57 of the Politburo identifies space technology as one of the country’s strategic technologies, placing outer space alongside maritime and underground spaces in the national development framework. This marks a major milestone, opening a new phase for Vietnam’s space industry.
Vietnam’s strategic direction focuses on developing Earth observation satellites and small satellites to meet national capabilities and data demands for socio-economic development and sovereignty protection.
2. Geospatial Data Ecosystem – Foundation for the Digital Economy and Smart Governance
Satellite data is often referred to as the “new oil” of the digital economy. When integrated with artificial intelligence, geospatial data supports critical applications such as disaster forecasting, urban planning, resource management, precision agriculture, and environmental monitoring.
Owning satellite systems and ground stations not only brings economic benefits but also ensures data security and national sovereignty.
3. From Scientific Research to National Growth Drivers
Space technology is transitioning from academic research to industrial and economic applications, forming the concept of a “space economy” including satellite internet, geospatial data services, and positioning services.
