President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology checks and supervises the implementation progress of Vietnam Space Center Project

In the afternoon of January 21st 2015, Professor Chau Van Minh, President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), Head of the Steering Committee of Vietnam Space Center Project chaired the supervising meeting, directed the implementation of the project and visited the construction site of Vietnam Space Center which was completed in October 2014 in Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park, Hanoi.

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Pham Anh Tuan, Director General of Vietnam National Satellite Center (VNSC) reported about the implementation plan and status of Vietnam Space Center Project. In particular, in 2014 Vietnam Space Center Project has achieved some major results, to name a few: in October 2014, site preparation was completed in Hoa Lac High-tech Park and everything became ready for the construction of technical infrastructure starting from 2015;  construction work of Human Resource Development Center at 18 Hoang Quoc Viet and The Observatory in Hon Chong, Nha Trang has been deployed, the basic satellite course, an important component of the project’s capacity building objective, has been effectively deployed as well. At the moment, there are 22 staff members of VNSC undertaking the Space Technology Master’s program in Japan.

After hearing Assoc. Prof Pham Anh Tuan reporting on the implementation status of the Project and members of the Steering Committee giving their feedback, Professor Chau Van Minh expressed his appreciation for the huge efforts of VNSC in ensuring the progress and quality of the work components of the Project completed in the past year.

With the results achieved, President Chau Van Minh emphasized that VNSC need to extend further efforts to realize the Project objectives in 2015, a year considered playing a key role with the starting of many infrastructure works and implementation of many important project packages.

After the meeting, Prof. Chau Van Minh, President of VAST and the Vice Presidents Prof. Nguyen Dinh Cong, Assoc. Prof. Phan Van Kiem and members of the Project Steering Committee directly came and checked the project site which was completed in October 2014.  At the construction site, Prof. Chau Van Minh spoke highly of the quality of the works carried out by VNSC and at the same time, reminded the investor to strictly implement site protection works as well as ensuring work safety while waiting for the infrastructure works to be deployed in the coming time.

Vietnam Space Center Project has been deployed on a 9-hectare area with total investment of 54 billion JPY financed by ODA from Japanese Government and counterpart fund from Vietnamese Government. This is a particularly important project in the “Strategy for research and applications of space technology until 2020”. Upon completion of the Project, Vietnam will have a leading and advanced space center in Southeast Asia. The receiving and executing agency of this key project is Vietnam National Satellite Center (VNSC), functioning under Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Vietnam Space Center Project started in January, 2012, the package “Site preparation for the construction of Vietnam Space Center” was completed in October 2014 and the construction of technical infrastructure of Vietnam Space Center Project will start in 2015 including: Vietnam Space Center in Hoa Lac, Human Resource Development and Technology Transfer Center in Hoang Quoc Viet and The Observatory in Nha Trang./.
