Deputy Prime Minister was accompanied by Prof. Chau Van Minh, President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Anh Tuan, Director of Vietnam National Satellite Center (VNSC), VAST.
On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc toured JAXA and the Tsukuba Space Centre where he witnessed the signing of a joint statement on bolstering affiliation between VAST and JAXA.
On 10/10, at the meeting with Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his wish that Prime Minister Shinzo Abe direct the implementation of Vietnam Space Center Project on schedule according to the Agreement between the two Governments.
Deputy Prime Minister Phuc, later the same day visited JAXA and Tsukuba Space Center in Ibaraki prefecture.
At the meeting with JAXA President Naoki Okumura, Deputy Prime Minister Phuc stressed that: The purpose of this visit by Vietnamese Government delegation is to discuss with Japan the policy and measures to deepen the relationship between the two countries in various fields including Science and Technology, Aeronautics and Space.
Deputy Prime Minister appreciated the fruitful cooperation between VAST and JAXA from 2006 to date in the development of science and technology and space applications through specific such as: capacity development for space technology and small satellites, cooperation in applications of satellite imagery projects to enable sustainable development, disaster mitigation and response to climate change. Both sides have facilitated VAST to implement scientific experiments in the Kibo laboratory attached to the International Space Station and at the same timesuccessfully co-organized APFSAF-15 (2008) and APRSAF-20 (2013) in Hanoi. Deputy Prime Minister Phuc also thanked JAXA for having supported Vietnam National Satellite Center to successfully launch PicoDragon – the first pico satellite manufactured by Vietnam successfully operated in space. The ongoing collaboration between the two agencies plays a significant role in promoting space technology, a newly developed field in Vietnam.
Deputy Prime Minister suggested that in the coming time JAXA and VAST continue to promote the collaboration in the areas agreed between the two agencies, especially in sharing satellite development experiences and supporting Vietnam in launching satellite and developing technical expertise together with management skills for Vietnam Space Center staff.
Dr. Naoki Okumura confirmed the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two agencies, which has been proved more evident by this official visit to JAXA and Tsukuba Space Center of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
Both sides agreed to review and assess potential cooperation in space development and application pointed out in the agreement signed between VAST and JAXA from 2006 to date and again, agreed to sign a joint statement on bolstering affiliation between VAST and JAXA.
Accordingly, both parties will work together to realize the potential for future cooperation in the following fields: remote sensing satellites and applications; small satellites development and applications; joint research using the Japanese Experiment Module KIBO; capacity building; application of global positioning satellite system.
12 staff members of VNSC studying at Keio University, Japan under Space Technology Master’s Program within the framework of Vietnam Space Center Project were honored to attend the welcoming ceremony of Vietnamese Government delegation and to give flowers to Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of VNSC staff, Ms. Ngo Thi Hoai expressed their honour to welcome and meet with Deputy Prime Minister and the Vietnamese Government delegation during their visit to Tsukuba Space Center. This has certainly served as a great motivation for VNSC staff to make the most of their time in Japan and tirelessly strive for the best in their work and studies.
